Of that $8500, $3400 was groceries, $3300 was restaurants, and $2100 was bars and alcohol. I admit I have expensive tastes with alcohol: over the year I bought several 60+ dollar bottles of whiskey and I also threw a few parties. Bar nights add up quickly as well.
How crazy is this? Just the grocery budget averages to $285/mo. Is that too high? What's a reasonable restaurant budget? How do you set your budget? I think part of the reason my restaurant spend is high is because of two vacations I took this year: on average it seems like I'm eating out 4x per week.
For reference, I live in the NYC metro area and my salary is 5500/mo.
