I’ve had a PPO plan as of late which has a higher premium but lower deductible, no copay. Annoying to figure out how much to contribute to FSA and feel pressure to use the money by year end. I’m married with a baby. The plan helped for hospital costs when the baby was born. I met the max quickly. This year, even with Covid, we barely went to the doctor because no one was getting sick while stuck at home. Most visits were preventative except for when my child was in daycare pre-covid and caught others’ germs.

I’m thinking to try HSA for 2021. It’s a lower premium and employer has $500 match. Are HSA contributions only though my employer/payroll? Can i make contributions from my own savings account and if so, do I still get the same tax advantages?
