I am 50ish years old and hope I can with your ideas. I think I can, I would be alone and will only make $600/month if I do get SS at the age of 62. I don't own a vehicle, but will have a scooter. My only utilities to be are water, trash bill, firewood and internet.

These are my ideas and would like feedback.

The property would have an existing septic and water tap connection, and I can buy it for less than $2500.

The house would be half sunken into the ground. Chainlink walls cemented with ferrocement. The building itself would be like a 400 sqft carport. Walls meeting the roof. I can get the chainlink for free. The floor was commercial rubber mats from a grocery store and the bottom of a semi with a rug over it.

The shower was one of those $40 battery powered shower nozzles that pumps water out of a 5 gallon bucket. The shower itself a kiddie pool.( until build real shower)

To not pay heating or cooling bills, all it takes is getting off ones keister and digging a trench 100 feet long 5 feet below the frost line and putting in a pipe that brings air from the outside into the house at 52 degrees F. From there it takes less heating and cooling. A trombe wall, or attached greenhouse for additional warmth along with a DIY solar tin can heater. The house would be banked with dirt to about 2 feet from the roof. The roof covered with 6 inches of dirt. A wood stove would be a mass rocket heater. An Ondol would heat the floor. Cooling to be a 12 volt ceiling fan. dirt roof planted with grass. (thank heavens for the pockets of land where there are not building codes, regulations or permits.)

Cooking would be done on a metal bucket lined with clay using easy to break branches and weeds. A clay pizza oven for baking. Pressure canning would be done with a diesel cook stove. Of course there is also a solar heater and a wonder box.

200 watts of solar panels to run a chest freezer conversion refrigerator.

300 watts of solar panels for lights, in addition to outdoor solar lights brought in at night. A gravity light built from a microwave. Liter of Light night lights (provides light day and night). A solar tube to direct sunlight where needed.

Water would be from a yard well for plants. Rainwater for showers, hand washing clothes, watering animals, dishes, flushing toilets, etc. Drinking and cooking water would be from the tap.

Clothes would be hand washed in a pila. (They sell plastic ones on Amazon, but there is a $99 shipping from Mexico)

Tools gas chainsaw. Gas weedeater. Hand drills saws. crank radio. Gas generator. solar dehydrator, rocking water pump (like a hand cranked except you stand on it.) to pump water out of a intex swimming pool off craigslist for free.

Note: I almost accomplished this. But it was too hot for my 80 year old mother during the dog days of summer. I didn't have the money to rent a backhoe to put the pipe in the ground or the $1500 to connect to the water line. Sold everything and moved in with my brother so she wouldn't die. If I do this again, it would be after she passes. There would be an existing septic and water connection.

What am I not thinking of?
