When I was looking into wire shelving, I ended up with one that is steel with epoxy coating (Nexelon that has lifetime warranty and advertised to be as BIFL as 304 stainless steel, i.e. resistant to rust, corrosion, etc. and is NSF-approved for use in the kitchen. I would have gone with 304 stainless steel but it was 3 times the price and I may eventually use it in the garage instead).
Anyway, wire shelving accessories are quite expensive and it's difficult to find actual 304 stainless steel ones without spending a pretty penny. I bought cheap wire shelving baskets from Target that is most likely not NSF certified for food use and will inevitably rust.
Looking for tips and recommendations on NSF food-safe epoxy suitable for wire shelving. Would such epoxy convert cheap chrome, zinc, and non-stainless steel wire shelving to ones that should stand the test of time and be resistant to rust/corrosion? Are they one-time applications that should not wear off within years? Are there any caveats to applying your own epoxy?
I'm a fan of wire shelving in general and plan to get quite a few more wire shelving and accessories for the garage.
