I have two dogs and a cat. All are healthy, except the cat gets occasional bladder infections, a common issue for many cats. One of the dogs also has some problems with his back legs as they believe his former owners kept him in a cramped kennel past the puppy stage and as he grew, his hips ended up growing wrong. It had made him a bit incontinent, though scans and exams show he has nothing major wrong and does not appear to be in pain.
Obviously, vet bills get very pricey. Just my cats bladder infections alone clock in at around $200 per visit.
I have heard of pet insurance but have always wondered if it is actually helpful and covers things well. On average, my research has shown that each pet would be between $15 and $30 per month, depending on company and level of protection. Even at $15 per animal, that also adds up and other than an annual exam, most of my pets haven't needed the vet. As they age, those visits are going to become more common.
I want to be prepared to care for the fuzzy members of my family to the best of my ability. Would insurance be best, or would just saving for a vet emergency be more beneficial? I don't want to spend money on something that won't help them when it is needed.
Also, if insurance is best, what company would you recommend we sign up with?
