hi ya'll, I just read a post about someones financial win and I thought I'd share mine! Currently, I'm a student (undergrad) applying to graduate programs. For those that don't know, grad applications can cost as low as $60 and as high as $120 based on the university/program you're applying to. Going into academia is one of those career choices that I'm putting my whole heart in (knowing the good and bad) and I'm applying to quite a few programs (yes based on the faculty I like). In total, the cost of all the applications would have been upwards of $900 (not including standardized testing, sending the test scores, test prep, etc.). However thanks to a lot of saving starting in the summer and some lucky breaks from the programs, I'm basically only paying $200 in apps :>! Still a little steep but I'll take the saved money. It gives me the chance to buy nicer gifts for friends and family.
For anyone applying to graduate programs and are worried about the bill, I highly recommend going to any grad sessions or AMA's. Just by attending, they'll usually give you a fee waiver which means you can save that $60-$120. Most grad sessions are advertised on the uni's social media or newsletter. If you are also to able to go to any recruiting events, those helped a lot too! Happy saving :>
