I'm looking at proposing soon. I spent the better part of this morning at Shane Co. learning about diamonds and what I generally want. After looking at various stones, a round cut seemed to be the right shape. As for quality, clarity and color don't seem important: (1) clarity flaws seem to be only detectable with a magnifier glass, and (2) color, so long as it is in the colorless area, does not seem to be detectable by the naked eye. The cut seemed to be the most important factor because it effects brilliance the most. In turn, I am leaning towards a 1 carat, cut well VG, G or H color, and I2. Any advice on this?

On a sidenote, I didn't like that Shane Co. doesn't do sales nor are they willing to negotiate on price and they use that as a selling point. Any other jewelers you recommend?
