I grew up around a dad who taught me how to work on my own cars and it’s saved me THOUSANDS of dollars over the course of just 8 years (I’m 24).
Knowing how to safely jack up your car is at least 10% of what you’ll ever need to know. YouTube is an AMAZING tool to start with zero knowledge. Please don’t let anyone tell you that “YouTube mechanic” is a bad thing. We all start somewhere. Learn the simple things first: oil changes, air filter, engine trouble codes, etc.
The transmission on my Jetta went out recently, a shop wanted $2500 to fix it. I was able to source a used one and my dad helped me put it in. Cost me a total of $400 and a couple beers.
