My kids and I recently went to a local orchard to pick up apples that had fallen on the ground. They can't legally sell them for human consumption so they're sold for deer and livestock. However 95% of these apples were in perfect condition or had a spot that had gotten hit with frost but otherwise perfect.

We paid $5 for a bushel bag and were able to pick at our leisure. I've made so much applesauce, Apple crisp, and apple everything and it was CHEAP. Check your local orchards after prime Apple picking season. This was easier, my kids could help, and I didn't spend a stupid amount on a fun fall activity!
