About two week ago I got a letter from Ally about backup withholding taking place on my account. The issue is, while the address on the envelope was mine, the name on the envelope was not. When I opened it my name was in the body of the letter, and below it was a social security number which was not mine.

I called Ally immediately to report this and they seemed not to know how this error was made. I looked through the backlog of this sub, and it looks like one other person has been on the opposite end of this, when Ally found their information was shared via mail. After Ally concluded my "investigation", they determined it was a one-off error and my account was secure. I don't really believe them. Also, they didn't even call me to report their finding despite promising they would do so. My fear now, is that my social (or any of their customers') might be lingering in the mail out there. They refused to offer me third party fraud protection when I asked.

I guess I'm posting half because I'm not sure what my next steps should be and half to warn others that they're somewhat dodgy to bank with. Should I be this worried? Where do I go next with this? Has anyone else experienced something similar?
