I recently tackled a dryer repair and finally succeeded at eliminating that clunking sound. It can be tricky, however, knowing when to call a pro or when to do it yourself. I like to conduct a worst-case scenario assessment before jumping into any repair. The assessment usually keeps me from pursuing a DIY repair that could upend the household and stress everybody out. The dryer repair dragged out more than a week, but I had planned in advance to use the backyard clothesline in the event my initial fix failed--which of course I did. I'm trying to use DIY repairs as an opportunity to learn and not put too much pressure on myself to get it right.
