My last raise was in 2018 and I've been kicking ass this year. So, I emailed my boss (co-owner) asking for him to consider increasing my salary, I included details showing evidence that I was doing a good job, etc. He said thank you and he'd be in touch.

The next day, the HR manager contacted me saying that the other co-owner had heard about my request and had already approved a 10k annual salary increase. But, that we would wait to see what offer my boss came back with... "we'll go with the higher offer", I was told.

Today, my boss said he'd like to offer me a 6k increase, and that he would like to see how some upcoming industry changes were going to affect business and that we could re-evaluate in Q1 next year for an additional increase. However, since this year had gone well for the company he would like to offer an immediate bonus of 10k net after taxes, in addition to the 6k increase.

So, Monday I have to choose between an increase of 10k annually OR 6k annually and a 10k bonus (with the potential to increase more in March/April 2021).

I was leaning toward the 10k raise, because it seems better long term. However, I can't stop thinking about getting the bonus and the 6k increase, then in 5/6 months getting an additional 4k or more... because that would add up better.

It's a family business and I know it's weird I was even put in this position at all. Also, I'm aware this a first world problem in a world that is struggling.
