https://ift.tt/3irMkKg very happy with how easy this was to modify and having the high-quality leather fits my aesthetic very well.Steps to reproduce alone with some notes:Waited for the specimen to show up: https://ift.tt/30pF6jS it arrived I first attempted to remove the existing glass/acrylic topI found success not marking the case with small "jewelry" flathead screwdriver and slowly/carefully prying off the top starting near the USBC portThe top is glued on very well so it takes a bit of patience and the top will likely break in the processSome glue will likely need to be removed after clearing the top from the CNC caseI then planned to get a swatch of high-quality veg-tanned leather laser-cut from Ponoko to fit precisely in the recess for the top securelyI carefully measured the diameter of the recessed opening at 96.68mmI created a DXF for laser cutting accounting for a 0.2mm and adding 2 arcs for the LEDs in the case available for others here: https://ift.tt/2GAadCs using their 2.5mm thick leatherThe added arcs are ~0.2mm thick so the LED is a lot more subdued but still visible compared to it being almost annoying with the original designI received the swatches from Ponoko in good condition with very clean cuts and just dropped them into placeI don't see the need for adding glue to secure the leather into the case as the fit is snugI find this still works perfectly to charge devices even with a case and accounting for the 2.5mm thick leather top - still within the 8mm max distance of the device's original specs via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2GoiSrD
