Hello,
I am a 22 year old college student with no credit card. Credit cards have always scared me because of how bad I am with money. It's like I always knew I was going to rack up a horrible credit score in no time! I use to spend recklessly and I payed all my bills 1-2 months late (linked to my debit account).
I'm now about to graduate college, and with some help from the internet and my boyfriend, I've somewhat controlled my erratic spending, started budgeting, etc. However, I'm still 22 with no credit score! So a few questions here;
1) Did I make the right move by holding off on the credit card until I got myself in check?
2) Now that I will be applying to get a credit card, how long does it take to establish a good credit history? Any advice on how to maintain good credit? (other than pay bills on time obviously)
and 3) Since my utility bill/ wifi bill is attached to my debit account, did my past years of late payments somehow affect my credit score, even though I don't have a credit card? (a super dumb question that I'm too embarrassed to ask publicly, please excuse my financial incompetency)
If anyone could help me out with these questions, it'd be a great help! I'm just trying to grow up and get my act together.
