My bf and I have decided to sell most of our belongings, bought a 5th wheel and plan to live in it full timer on family land in a rural town. We worked high stress, well paying jobs and were miserable, but continued to do it because of the money. With a little pushing from life circumstances, we decided we would stop talking about simplifying and prioritizing what we truly want from life, and instead to make it happen.

Our family members had reactions ranging from complete acceptance and excitement, to talking badly behind our backs, to straight up panic and manipulation to not do it. Their reactions ultimately don’t matter because this is what we want out of this season of our lives and we won’t compromise that for people it doesn’t effect.

I was laying in bed tonight and thinking about the best way to shut down unwanted prying or manipulation without getting petty or angry-I can totally see why this doesn’t make sense to them and why they might would be concerned for our “success” or “wealth” or whatever they are worried about with a non-traditional lifestyle.

I thought about the phrase “we don’t have much but we are hAppy” and wondered, why is it a “but”?? I’m happy BECAUSE we don’t have much. We aren’t chasing carrots, we aren’t tied down financially by rent or mortgage, and we don’t have to work hellish jobs JUST TO PAY FOR RENT OR MORTGAGE. Everything we own serves a purpose, brings happiness or has sentimental value. Because of this change we will have more control over our time, will be closer to family, and literally achieving life goals and dreams that some people wait decades for.

Why is it “but”?? We don’t have much AND WE ARE HAPPY!!!
