Hello!
I am hoping for some advice on how to use ingredients I already have in my pantry and make it through that inventory before purchasing more groceries. I tend to spend a lot on groceries each month because I enjoy having fresh produce, try to eat organic and buy health foods, premade coffee drinks, etc.
I’m currently struggling financially. I will be able to pay my bills, but I want to FINALLY get an emergency fund and continue to save each month. I have a lot of things around the house I plan to sell, but I think cutting down my grocery budget could also help.
My living situation is a bit up in the air too. I will be moving into a house in May, my current apartment lease ends in January, and not sure what I’ll do for those months in between. Potentially live with family or find something temporary for those few months. So, I want to try not to have a ton of excess pantry items when the time comes for me to move out. I know that’s several months away, but just thinking ahead.
Here are some things I currently have: • Oats • Cereal • Rice – brown, white, Wild • Pasta • Flour – coconut, whole wheat, plain • Cornmeal • Nuts / trail mix / granola • Rice cakes • Chips and crackers • Canned soup • Frozen fruits and veggies • Frozen ground turkey
I also currently have some more perishable items in the fridge like milk, cheese, eggs, bananas, celery, carrots, salsa, etc.
Trying to figure out what the bare minimum I can buy each week is (while hopefully eating SOMEWHAT nutritious). Also curious if anyone has ideas on how to use up some of the things I have in bulk like all my flour and baking supplies.
I’m thinking I could limit myself each week to eggs, fresh or frozen veg, meat (I normally only eat light meat like chicken or turkey), almond milk/some type of liquid for smoothies, and when I want to splurge or run out of frozen fruit start to buy fresh produce when it’s on sale.
I’m hoping to keep my weekly budget at $25 or less.
What do you think? Any advice? Also have been searching this sub for similar posts!
