tl;dr: need to remove 2 layers of paint from concrete porch slab. Evaluating options and looking for input on potential methods based on experience.//////////A small porch project turned into a big porch project, which opens up the idea of cleaning up the slab. It appears to be red stained concrete with 2 layers of paint over it. I am trying to figure out the best way to remove the paint layers right now. Refinishing it after the paint is gone is another research project!I pressure washed it last year and it peeled up the loose stuff, but didn't seem to want to touch the still adhered paint. Here are a couple of photos - https://ift.tt/2C5PgNM have done some looking around and seems like the following are all potential options:- chemical or citrus-based paint stripper (citristrip or any number of chemical options)- Manual removal with a wire brush or grinder.- Soda blasting - either hire it done or use a friends loaner blaster- Power concrete grinder ( https://ift.tt/3fE0tmw ) The slab is kind of old and is cracked with one side settled below the other. There is also one step. Total square footage is in the 250 sq ft range, although I might do the same thing to my front porch as it has the same treatment on it - paint over stained concrete. I am pretty sure I don't want to try to do this with a wire brush or grinder. I think the amount of labor for the end result will not be worth it.Using a stripper seems like it might work, but I worry about having to apply several times as I do not know what the coverings are, and I worry about the potential effect on the stain in the concrete and inconsistent removal or coloration changes.Soda blasting almost certainly will work, and work well. I need to get my quote on having it done professionally vs calculating the amount of media I will consume. The power concrete grinder is a machine I've used before to resurface a terrazzo floor and it was great. I worry that the crack and settling, as well as the step, is going to be a PITA.Thoughts and considerations? Experiences with similar projects? Any options that I may have missed?Edit: formatting via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2EVKhjK
