Almost half a year ago, I more than doubled my salary. This puts me in a place where I earn 5 times the average salary in my country. Money has become a non-problem for me.
However, I am starting to realise that I'm also inflating my lifestyle. There are always things that I'm waiting for to arrive in the mail. I mostly purchase useful things, one or two vanity items, but mostly things I regulary use. Now, I could settle for cheaper options for some items, but I tend to buy the more expensive, and more reliable versions. For a hilarious example, I have just bought some premium fiberglass chopsticks that last for years, but I could have just bought some wooden ones for 10th of its price.
I feel like I am the prime example of the capitalist end-user. While looking at my friends, I often can't believe that I can pull off such purchases without having to save up for months, and I'm starting to think if I should change something. Also, my co-workers earn the same as me, and they even cheap out on food, which is crazy to me.
I am 26 years old, plan to leave my country in the next 5 years, don't own a house, nor a car as I don't need it. I have 6 months of emergency funds in liquid, and can invest half of my salary while spending money on all these things. I am also debt free.
