Recently received an email from the gas company saying they wanted to verify the meter reading and asked me to take a photo. After taking the photo of the gas meter outside the house, I pulled out the last statement. It turned out the last month usage was 286 CCF. I pulled June, May and April statements, and the usage was 7 - 9 CCF each month, which only costed $25 ~ $30 each month. The gas company replied to my photo, by saying the reading was consistent with their reading at HQ, and they will send a statement soon.
The appliances use gas in my house: Kitchen Range with 6 burners; Oven; Two water heaters; a dryer; Heating (furnace): never used since March. Here is North Texas.
Our use to the appliances was not dramatically changed in July. How can the gas usage change so much? Can the meter be malfunction? I emailed back to the gas company to ask them to provide daily usage of the last month, and conduct an investigation to the gas meter to ensure if it is working correctly. Besides that, what else can I do? Is there a way to DIY inspect the gas meter? Can you hire some independent professional inspect the gas meter? If there is another sub should this post goes, please let me know. Thank you very much.
