23 year old - 44k a year before taxes, how to budget and spend wisely.

I just got my first full time job out of college, and I’m making 44k a year before taxes. That’s a lot for me because well I didn’t really come from much but I know that’s not a lot in the real world. I bring home $1,200 every two weeks. Student loans are $750 a month.

I’m posting because I want to know how to effectively save and spend my money as well as develop a diverse portfolio. I don’t want to be poor forever.

Right now I moved back home after college to save money, but I still have my student loans to pay. I have no other expenses. No car payment, no bills, just have to pay for gas and I work in the television industry so I try to buy gear for camera etc. (that stuff isn’t cheap, it will take about $5,000 to build the camera I want with gear)

So that’s my situation. I appreciate all comments and advice.

I’ve been working for about 11 months in that job, and I’ve managed to save $1,000. Clearly I have bad spending habits. Clothes, food, dates. I definitely try to live above my means and I know that a problem.
