I am a 22F and I’ve had a credit card with discover since I was 19. I applied for the student card so I didn’t need a deposit or co-sign (is that even a thing for a credit card?) of any sort so I’m assuming my parents aren’t linked to the account. I got an Alaska airlines card when I was 21, also independently.

When I check my credit score on FICO, it says that one thing ‘hurting’ my score is the presence of a derogatory public record. I do not have any knowledge of anything like that, collections or bankruptcies etc. I even paid a small fee on a website that allowed me to obtain my public record of all finances, criminal charges etc. and it came up completely clean.

I really think this situation is causing a solid 10-20 point difference in my credit score because i have no other issues besides the short length of having the account, though my boyfriend just got a card last year and his score is 20 points higher than mine (we both use our credit cards quite frequently.) I’ve never missed a payment and haven’t ever even accrued interest because I pay my purchases off immediately.

The only thing I can think of is my student loan debt through FAFSA which is about $10,000, but I just finished my semester in May and I’m technically not required to pay them back yet, even though I’ve already paid off about $1,000 of it.

I’m not quite sure what I’m missing here; should I call the Discover credit card company or do I need to do something else?

All tips welcome please!! Thank you!
