My kitchen tile was laid over 25 years ago. It is holding up very well, there are no grout cracks and no raised tiles. At the time the tile was laid, the tiler did not remove the stove or the dishwasher and tile under them. My stove is 35 years old, and I have ordered a new one. I removed the old stove with the help of my husband, and then I tiled the six square-foot area myself. I have never laid tile before. I have watched videos and read about what to do. I had my two pieces of tile cut at Lowe’s and bought premixed stuff for under the tile and for the grout. The floor underneath is cement. I had enough of the original tile to lay at the front under both the stove and the dishwasher for when I eventually tile the dishwasher area. I purchased other tile for the area that won’t show. The original kitchen tiles were placed on point but I did not continue that with the ones under the stove. I simply lined them up with the spot where the tile ends, leaving room for the grout of course. I needed to prepare the floor and remove the grout that was laid at the edge where the stove is. That was the hardest work. It had cracked off from years of having to move the stove for different reasons and the original flooring was still there. I ran out of gray grout and had some white in the garage from previous bathroom work. It’s in the back where it won’t show. One thing I would do differently is cut the tile smaller, I didn’t measure correctly, grout spacing is too narrow. I’m glad I did this project, not looking forward to tiling under the dishwasher whenever I get a new one. This project was exhausting for me, I’m not a spring chicken. It took me three days of sporadic work to finish. I ache everywhere. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/38LNldd
