As the title says, I’m moving into a 3bedroom rental home in 2 weeks. The place is in Georgia, so it’s going to be hot. It also has tons of windows, which I loved and was one of the main reasons I decided to lease the place. But I’d also like to keep my utilities bill down, and AC is expensive in the dog days of summer. Is there a way to still allow in natural light while keeping my AC cost down? I’d hate to cover all the windows with big thick curtains but if that’s my only option I’ll have to eat it. Other ways I’m keeping my costs down:

-buying a clothes line for the yard so we don’t use the dryer much -buying LED bulbs for all light fixtures -using a high efficiency washer -using smart thermostat -putting electronics on power snakes and turning them off when not in use

We’d like to keep the house at 68/69, water heater at 130. Ive read those numbers are good from other threads in this and other subs!

For the winter I feel more comfortable with our plan. We can let the sunlight warm the house, and apply insulator wraps to the windows so the heat stays in. It’s keeping the place cool in the summer that worries me. Also, this is my first real house that I’m paying for so I’m a complete newbie. Any help is welcome!!
