I have an old pre-built shower that is about 36" in size. I want to replace it with a tiled shower about 60" wide. The problem is the area that I want to expand the shower to contains an access panel for my tub (motor access panel).Access Panel next to ShowerI was hoping to get ideas on ways around the issue.I talked to a remodeling company that suggested the glass enclosure should be on top of the tub (an inch or two) and that the access panel should be waterproofed, tiled and be inside the shower. The tile would need to be busted open for any future maintenance needs.Contractor suggestionI was thinking if the glass enclosure was simply put next to the access panel on the floor, one could theoretically remove the panel (unscrew the hinges) and gain access. This would be complicated if it's a standard enclosure since all three panel segments would be interconnected.I could make a doorless shower with the glass covering the access panel. Since it'd be a single piece of glass, removing it for access to the panel would be relatively easy. There's a window that would be a concern if that were the path forward, any thoughts on how difficult it would be to waterproof. Also the doorless images I see online seem to be curbless, is that a requirement for doorless showers?Window that might need to be waterproofedAre there any other options or recommendations on the best way to move forward? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2ZkL7OP
