Before we bought our house, the inspector found a small leak near the chimney. The owners “fixed” it using particle board, which, when the flashing is done terribly, rotted pretty easily. The Mrs. finally convinced me to do something about it, so I gutted all the plywood from around the chimney and replaced it. Also did flashing for the first time ever. Wasn’t too difficult once I got my roof legs, but I’m pretty pleased with the results. Was going to do a cricket but was running out of time and I think it’ll be ok if I just clean behind it a few times a year. This was also my first time working with sheet metal, and not having one of those tools that bends metal easily, I made do by using my friends’ table with a steel top, some 2x4, and a hammer. The end result was a bit sticky and ugly, but I got the cap flashing stuck in the groove I sawed out, and ratcheted it nicely. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2VBUs2s
