Hello! My boyfriend and I recently completed our walkway and thought I'd share with the internet :) I'm pretty proud of our work! Slowly becoming handier. We chose to dig up the walkway as the previous one was leaning into our side door. During the winter, we had quite a bit of rain above the ice (Thanks, Canada), and water came in underneath the door. So...We built a swale (a tiny trench). My dad had rented a sod cutter and ripped up all the sod. We then dug a small trench to try to prevent the water from pooling close to the house.Rented a bin and smashed up all the old concrete pathway! That sucker was free-poured and HOLY man did that suck as some areas were very thick. (We used a rod to leverage under the concrete and then used a sledge hammer to smash it)Took out old garden boxes (they were rotting) & disposed of them.Filled gaping walkway holes with crusher fines. We also put some crusher fines over our driveway :)Started to set the stones (we didn't pack the crusher fines as they sat over another winter - this project took a while) and then filled them with sand between (my dad gave us this special sand that you use between the stones)Repainted the grey side of the house & side of stairs (You can't see in the old photos but the paint was chipping and it was not painted under the old garden boxes)Poured 3/4 white stone between edge of house and stone tiles.Put in some planters and lights to make it look shnazzy :)Left to do: Plant grass around the edge :)All-in-all it cost us about:$400 for bin for disposing of concrete$500 for small crusher fines$300 for bin to get rid of other materials (old garden boxes, etc)$1000 for tiles (From Home Depot)$50 for paint$80 for 3/4 inch white stones$70 for solar lamps (Also Home Depot)$50 for planters$50 for plants= $2500 CAD for the project :)(+ a lot of our time and sweat haha)https://ift.tt/30lPIQb via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2DyzmM4
