Ive been wondering this for a while, My house is new and has good insulation, and I know my utility company charges more per hour during peak hours, which with everyone home , I believe everyone uses the AC/electricity during the day. Electricity is cheaper at night overall, so what I do is I set the temperature to 70 degrees around 10pm, and the house will float around 78 by mid day, to around 80 at most in the evening, so I barely have to use it during the day, and then I run it again at night. Sometimes it will have to run the AC to 78/80 for a few hours in the afternoon.
What do you guys think? I try to keep my personal electricity bill under 200 dollars for my 2500 sq foot house and so far so good. My temperatures in my area average around 90-100 during the day and 65- 75* at night, needless to say its pretty hot, though a dry hot I suppose.
