I wanted to build a small floating desk, but I'm trying to keep cost down and working with very limited tools (I have a very basic toolkit, and no cutting equipment). I had thought of gluing two 10"x24" shelves (something like this: https://ift.tt/2Zs1aJc) together along their long ends, to make a slab that's 20"x24", and then mounting that on a two large heavy duty shelving brackets. Do y'all think that would work? It seems to me it would be sturdy enough but I don't particularly want the whole thing falling apart with my laptop and monitor on it.I also considered going to the store and having them cut a longer 1"x10" board in half for me, as maybe unfinished wood would glue together better than that finished, laminated stuff. I'm just concerned if it's not very straight, or cut exactly in half, it'll look a bit wonky. Would plywood be better? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/38dzRGM
