I finally crossed the $20 an hour mark in my career.
I still have two other roommates to keep my housing costs under 30% of my take home income.
After running the numbers, I need to make $30 an hour to afford my own 1-bedroom apartment. That’s $62,400 annually. If I work hard for another 5-6 years, I’ll eventually become a mid level manager and earn that sweet raise.
I don’t personally know anyone who makes over 50k a year. Maybe my dad, who is a truck driver, who’s worked 60 hours a week for the past 20 years or so. Most people I know top out at 30-40k, if even that.
Where is this 30% figure coming from?
