Got offered a new job today and after the meeting the owner asked me email him what my desired compensation would be so he could bring it to his business partner and begin to hammer out the details of my employment. I’ve never had to negotiate a salary like this. The job is a management roll for a high end cigar club and lounge in a major US city. I’ve looked up median salaries for the area but they are much lower than the numbers suggested by a friend who has a similar position in the same area with a similar resume. This place is also a different clientele than a normal bar and restaurant so I’m not totally sure if that changes what a fair offer would be. I have 10 years of experience in the industry with 4 of those being management experience. It’s a good sized place. I would be one of two full time managers, with me running the bar and service side and the other handling the cigars and club members. Does anyone have a suggestion on a starting point for what I could ask for? Or any advice on how to handle the negotiation in general?
