Soo long story short my mom recently got “romance scammed”. She had recently managed to buy herself a house entirely in cash (through an advance on her inheritance from her uncle). She has never been good with money, and doesn’t have a stable job. She jumped around a lot, her most recent job was as a real estate agent and she hated it, so now she basically just lives off of rent that I and my room mate pay her for her old house, and the social security my dad left her when he died.
This man who scammed her managed to convince her to SELL HER HOUSE and send him 45k in order to get him to come spend his life with her... so where I was much less worried about her as she ages (owning a house and having at least enough income to pay what bills she has) she now owes rent on the house she is living in, has some credit card debt, back taxes owed, and still has 2 mortgages on the house I’m living in... I’m really worried that it’s going to fall on me as the only son to help her get by moving forward and I’m barely making enough for myself and my girlfriend to get by... I guess I don’t have a specific question except... anyone have any advice? I don’t guess there’s some way to get that money back from him? Any other resources or things I could be doing to make this better?
