I’m helping my in-laws put Trex decking on their existing deck. It is ~12x13’ deck and is about 30” off the ground. After doing an initial look the deck joists are 2x6’s with 2x8 beams. Are there anyways to salvage the existing joists in order to attach a guardrail and stairs? I’ve been researching and all I can find is that you have to use 2x8 rim joists due to the load at the top of the guard rail posts. Can the 2x6’ be beefed up to 1). Hold the load necessary for the guard rails and 2). Hold the stairs, which I saw had to be a 2x10.I’m trying to avoid basically rebuilding the entire deck from scratch.Any help / comments is appreciated. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2VkQCe0
