These are the two that I have narrowed it down to but cannot decide. I can get the Pelican for $306US (TIL the VA has a shopping site) vs Canyon for $270US.
Use case is primarily for travel (pack in back of car and go coast to coast) as well as camping. I have a 2YO so probably more lake parties and whatnot are in my near future too
Last time I traveled ended with everything in cold water rather than ice (3 days Florida to New England).
Similarities: Both seem to do a great job with ice retention (correct me if wrong). Comparable interior volumes (I think). Both have lifetime warranty.
Pelican
Like: Their handles look very comfortable. The threaded drain. Additionally I have used their cases in the past and they are incredible. Latches look very sturdy.
Dislike: Weird shape for packing stuff around. More expensive accessories. Larger exterior dimensions.
Concerns: How does it seal? With sloshing result in leaks?
Canyon
Like: Smooth sides look easy to clean and pack around. Accessories are about 1/3 less. Cooler about 10% lower cost.
Dislike: Rope handles are a pita especially when carrying with two people. Latches look small/fragile.
Concerns: Do fewer people use these for a reason that I am missing? Will sloshing result in leaks?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide in making this decision.
