I'm about to begin a project for the living room in my condo, and I'm curious if there's a simpler way (in material and methodology) to build it. Here's a gallery I drew showing off the concept and some initial drawings. The project has 3 elements:A build out on the wall that we can tile with a product like thisA vertical slatted wood wallSome millwork spanning across the entire bottom of the wall as a media console / storageFor 2 and 3, we were going to have a millworker build those pieces for us, but I wanted to tackle the build-out myself.I've drawn up framing for the build-out (in the gallery above), but because of how I have to layer materials, my plan seems overly complicated. I'd like to keep the depth at about 4-5" with a recess around the entire perimeter for LED lighting. There's the framing layer that I'd be attaching to the wall, and then a tile frame that wraps it to support the tile and create a recess for lighting. My first idea was to use a product like Schluter KerdiBoard (IE: the thickest one) instead of building a frame that I can attach to the wall directly as blocking, but that's definitely not it's intended use. This got me thinking that there's probably other stuff I'm unaware of that can help here. What materials would you use, and how might you simplify the construction of this? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/3dNZnUu
