I (17M) an enlisting in the army for 2 years to get the GI Bill among other reasons. My passion is working on cars and older vehicles. I work on a farm currently and have a old diesel farm truck that is useful for the work I currently do but do but it has some issues. It cannot sit for more than 24 hours or it has issues with leaking and fuel and it gets 11 mpg on a good day. It also wont start in the cold (below freezing) without some issues. My parents think I should keep the truck but I dont think it would be good because there is no way I could drive it everyday and it is expensive to keep running. I want to sell/trade it for an older camaro as I have worked on them a ton and can easily keep one running for cheap. The chevy would get way better mileage on cheaper fuel, insurance would be cheaper, and it could sit for more than 24 hours. What should I do and how could I convince my mom its not a great idea to keep the truck?

TLDR: Going to the army, should I sell/trade my diesel truck and buy something that’s cheaper and I can keep running easily.
