Hi PF,

I gave a small loan (under $1k, without interest) to a friend about a year ago to help him with a move and a job change. 6 months ago, after I mentioned it, he repaid me 40% of the balance and promised to have the rest of it at the end of his next pay period. He’s doing well, now making well over $100k/year, but he hasn’t been proactive about repaying me and I’m not sure what to do. I don’t need the money, but am a bit annoyed that he’s ghosted me on such a small amount of money — I’ve known this guy for at least 5 years. Is it petty to text this guy to remind him? Should I just cut my losses? I’m now glad that I gave him a (much) smaller loan than he initially asked for, but I’m frustrated. When he asked for the loan he asked me to promise not to share the details with the rest of our friend group, and I haven’t, but now I wonder if he’s taken other people for cash he never intends to repay. What would you do in this situation?
