Hello DIY,I'm having some difficulty understanding how to level the below-grade seating area around my fire pit. The perimeter itself, as in the ground above the pit, isn't level. I've looked around on this subreddit as well as Google and YouTube, but I can't seem to figure it out. This guide and diagram from This Old House has been the most helpful so far as it describes exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm confused by step 2, though.I get that you would use the lowest point as your reference and did to the desired depth in that area. What I don't get is how you use the stake outside of the hole, and therefore several inches above the hole, to make a taut level line all as you slope down into the desired depth on the lowest side.I hope someone can help me and I hope this isn't too dumb a question. It might be staring me in the face, but I can't see it. Thank you all in advance. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2ybCUl9
