My husband and I fostered a puppy ~3 years ago. We kept in touch with the couple who ended up adopting the puppy, and now when either of us go out of town, we watch each other's dog. It works out great because the dogs get along, it's homier than a kennel & it's free!
So, if you have a dog, consider fostering another dog and keeping in touch with the adoptive family. We actually just had our 2nd foster pup adopted today, and I think it's going to end up a similar situation. I figured I'd post here because boarding is expensive as hell!
