An acquaintance of mine is asking me to receive a wire transfer of around 8k for him that’s supposed to be payment from a big clothing company. He is in that business, and is someone I’d like to build a rapport with but I’m skeptical about why he’s asking me to do it instead of someone possibly closer to him. Wire payments can’t be reversed and it’s not a check so I don’t think there’s any way of the funds being reversed but is there any reason I should be suspicious besides the fact that I’m receiving money for someone who’s not family or my partner?
There are two main red flags: I asked him if he can wait 3 days for my own security Incase there’s any issues with the payment, but he tells me he needs the funds as soon as possible.
I ask him for his managers Instagram because he sent me screenshots of texts with him talking about the payment and he says that he doesn’t have Instagram (I was just trying to check if the name matches his contact)
