My refrigerator is very small, and even then it's practically always empty. It's a waste of space and energy.
I was thinking that I could find or make some sort of small insulated box instead. All my food is frozen, so constantly putting things into the box to thaw should keep it relatively cold.
If at some point I don't have anything to thaw, I could simply put some ice packs into the box instead. Then the next time I put some food into the box to thaw, I would refreeze the ice packs so that they're ready again.
Has anyone tried something like that? Does it work well enough? Is there an ambient temperature at which it ceases being viable? At the very least I could unplug my refrigerator when it's cold, I only heat my house to 8 degrees anyway.
