I am fairly new to excel but I've wanted to create a document that shows the true cost of "financial advisors." As time moves on, the industry is beginning to shift to a fee-only type structure in the form of a monthly retainer, and rightfully so.
Please check out this excel document I created showing the true cost of your advisor. For this example, I used the Growth Fund of America for A-share mutual funds, VVIAX for the fee-only monthly retainer structure, 1.35% AUM fee for your typical advisor, and 1% for the industry standard.
The initial investment, rate of return, AUM fees, and monthly retainer fees are adjustable and the chart values will change accordingly.
Feel free to play with this tool and offer feedback on ways to make this better. Again, this is my first real project I've ever worked on using excel, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
