I don't need the car anymore and I'm looking forward to saving money on car payments and insurance payments. But when I called to inquire about cancelling my insurance (Progressive), I was told I should keep my insurance even though I don't have a car, because otherwise if I get a car again in the future having a gap in my insurance will be seen as a major red flag and double my insurance rates moving forward.
Is this true? Certainly there must be some way to work around this. Why should I need to pay for car insurance when I don't even have a car?
