For the past 2 years, I have been spending as little as possible - mostly out of fear of being destitute once I'm too old to work. I pay crippling support and only work 3/4 of my full-time salaried position due to a disability (bipolar). Now I have lost 3% of my yearly income in the last 2 weeks due to my union engaging in a legal province-wide job action.
The thing is, the loss of income is disheartening, but with the way I've handled my $$ over the past 2 years, I know I can weather the storm. Some of my colleagues are already panicking because they just don't have any wiggle room in their budget - and they bring in double what I do after support.
Being frugal will reward you in ways that you might never imagine as long as you stick with it and make it a part of your daily life.
