I recently opened a checked account with Ally just under a week ago(this process took months) after it was opened, I immediately deposited my $10,000 dollar check, which was a Christmas present from my Grandfather. This money was for my schooling, and now I can't pay for classes. Ally had stated that it would take until Friday for the check to be cleared (I deposited it on Monday) and a few days later locked my account. I did not receive any notification whatsoever within the 48+ hours of my account being blocked. When I did call, they said that a specialist had been assigned to my account. The time that I called the first time, apparently all the "specialist had gone home" and that their work hours end at 6pm EST. I called them again two days later to try and figure out what was going on, since I had no information whatsoever. I was put on hold for like 30+ minutes before *finally* being transferred to someone who could give me information. She started off asking me where I heard about Ally bank and where I got the check from. Then she asked WHY I was given the check before she finally gave me the bad news. I just wanna say that she was also very rude and told me they would NEVER work with me again.
A little background information, I have never done business with a bank and was recommended on here to try Ally for savings. I am 21 and already feel like a criminal. I know my Grandfather would never give me a fake check as he helps out his Grand-kids all the time and none of them have had issues, so I'm just at a loss for words as well as frustrated that I went through months trying to get this set up only to be treated like this.
Really unfortunate experience for my first time trying to bank for myself.
