Hello everyone. I lurk here all the time, this is my first time posting.

I am creating this account to post here because my other account has/may have some identifiable information.

Here is the story. Last year in January (2nd or 3rd week), I purchased a pair of REI gloves to wear in the winter. It is a version of these gloves that come with a liner. I bought these gloves in California, in preparation for my trip to Canada where temperatures were freeing. I wore the gloves for 2/3 days in January 2019 and put them away. I then had to move to Canada and since late November, I have been wearing them regularly. At first they started pilling, but I didn't care much. Last week of December, however, I noticed they started to come apart at the seams. I mostly keep indoors, so the only time I wear these gloves is when I am out walking. I was busy due to the holidays so today I contacted REI about the gloves and I was surprised at the response.

I explained to them that I have only worn the gloves for no more than 3/4 months collectively. I first contacted them via online chat and they quickly brushed me off by saying returns don't apply to anything purchased over a year ago w/o even asking me when in January I purchased it. When I called their help center, they asked me for a proof of purchase. I don't like giving companies my email address, so I usually have physical receipts for everything. The salesperson told me, since I didn't have a proof of purchase they can't do anything. I explained that these are made by REI and have REI plastered all over them. I also mentioned that it was ridiculous expecting me to hold on to a receipt for a year, in the event something like this happens. I even asked the lady at the other end, what would she have done in my shoes, to which she replied "i hold on to all my receipts", when I asked "even for a whole year", she, very confidently retorted "Yes". At that point, I realized I wasn't getting anywhere with this. So I said thank you for trying to help and hung out. There is nothing else for me to do, there are no REI stores in Canada so I cannot go to the store to talk to someone. I am stunned because, I have bought merchandise from Patagonia and even after years, they stand by their product. REI is refusing to for something that has their name plastered all over it, and owned for less than a year. I have decided I am not buying anything from REI ever again. Is there anything else I can do to get them to fix it?

TLDR: Purchased REI gloves last January (2nd/3rd week), wore them collectively for 3/4 months. Glove starting to come apart. REI refuses to do anything to help without me being able to provide proof of purchase.
