So, we had a check engine light come on our 2014 Lincoln MKT on Dec 16th. Took to the dealership, the code read “camshaft sensor” and they checked it in to work on the next day. They call me Tuesday: the check engine light is now off, but they did some poking around and see metal flakes in the oil. (Car has 70100 miles, last oil change was at 69,500, the 5 yr power train warranty expired in August). Shop recommends replacing the engine- $14,000. Yup. That is the estimate

Enter GEICO extended warranty. They check my oil service records, send out an inspector to set a value for the vehicle. They need to decide between repair or totaling the car. The value is in our favor and the proceed with authorization of repairs with a used engine for $11,000. (Note that many parts in the install will be new).

Engine arrives Dec 31st. Inspected and prepared. A short delay for a manifold gasket that needs ordering(arrives Jan 15th). Then curveball number one. Jan 20th: They need a new hose for the turbo housing for $188. They claim Geico won’t cover. Geico says they will. That got resolved Jan 22nd. Curveball number 2. Jan 23rd car is fixed and running great, but there is an exhaust leak and they need to rethread- $225. Geico steps in, calls the shop, Geico authorities the new repair. Great customer service and advocacy.

We paid our deductible of $250.

“Over 75 Years of Savings and Service”. Yes indeed.
