Hi,I've (21, male) recently been given $10k from my Grandfather, this money was given to me for the use of mostly schooling, but besides that, I can use it however I want.

I'm a 21 y/o HS graduate who as been struggling with depression for many years now, recently I have decided to get my life back on track. My dad diagnosed with cancer in my senior year of HS, which, to say the least, completely destroyed my life. He is my best friend, and I was finishing school at his house(my parents are divorced) I have no experience with college, community college, saving, investing, banking, nor any work experience. I'm a completely clean slate. I don't even have my drivers license yet. Unfortunate things have happened in my life that has affected me emotionally to the point where all those things weren't a priority to me, until now. I want to change, and my Grandfather has given me this money to hopefully help in that regard.

Now, for what I know, I've come to understand that Ally is a good bank to start out with. They have high interest rates, and mostly everything is done online(at least I think).

All I want is just some general advice on what you would do in my situation to better prepare myself for the future that lies ahead. I currently live with my Mom, so I don't have to worry about rent nor food.

Please and thank you for your time, I apologize if any of what I have said sounds ignorant or just flat out stupid. I just want to take the right step forward with this money.
