A couple months ago I had a discussion on this subreddit about how searching for secondhand stuff on Nextdoor or Craigslist before you rush off to Target to buy it new can save tons of money AND it’s better for the planet instead of adding to all our consumption.
We know this doesn’t always work. But today it worked out SO well for me thanks to the kindness of a stranger!
The pans we got from our wedding have gotten quite used to the point the nonstick teflon was wearing off. Our knives have also been very worn down from use. I posted in my neighborhood group to see if anyone had a set of pans or a set of knives from which they’d sell me one pan or one knife. The man who responded not only sold me a knife and pan from new sets he had, but he also added more pans and knives from the set he didn’t need. In the end he sold me 3 pans with lids and two knives for only 20 dollars!
My situation might not be the norm, but it doesn’t take long to post on your neighborhood social media - it’s always worth a try! So many of us have so much more than we need and it feels great to be able to help each other our.
