Please excuse any errors. Please let me know if I am over reacting or if my GM is blowing me off. Also are there additional steps that I should be taking to protect my self. This happened in Texas.
On 12/23 I left work around 2pm to be out of office for the holiday. This is important later. I was out of office until 10 am 12/26. In the meantime our offices were open meaning staff was coming in and out of the building. This building has no security or security cameras.
When I arrived back this morning there were papers taped to my office door. After looking at them I realize it is my 401k application in its entirety. This means on multiples pages where my SS #, DOB, and address. It also had a blank for " fill out and return' or whatever. No envelope, just pages taped to the door. A door with 2 access doors via a hall and non restricted access, even customer have been know to roam back there. I talked to my assistant and she notified me 'those pages were on your door the same afternoon you left'. So now my info has been accessible for 3 days. She did not remove the papers as I am her manger and she would never take my mail. Hindsight she should have checked but that is not her job.
This morning when I realized this, I immediately send an email to my GM and had a chat with my GSM. My GSM was apologetic but put it off on my GM. When my GM called me after reading my email. He apologized and let me know he ' ripped (HR guys) ass'. He said 'its never happened before and wont happen again. '
This was not good enough for me bc I think
- this was done on purpose due to personal issues with HR GUY -OR-
- HR guy is totally incompetent bc 'he didn't know' not to leave that kind of sensitive info on display for DAYS. HR guys has been doing this job at least 1.5 years that I have been at the company.
When I pointed this out, my GM fired back and said 'what do you want me to do, fire him?" Obviously, I said no, but still think this is being swept under the rug. We work at an institution that if we are audited we can be fined for ever single piece of paper of a customers that is left out for the customers to see ex..manages or sales desk. We have shred boxes so we can destroy this info for security reasons. I really get the feeling my GM knows this a real fuck but is bulling me into letting it go. He is notorious for his lack of backbone and discipline to all his employees and the company is an unorganized cluster fuck in general.
My credit is frozen on all 3 bureaus and I have it monitored by Cap One with my Credit card.
