State is Kansas if that matters-company is large-has 45,000 employees. Internal promotion, been with the company 5.5 years. In both interviews money was never discussed so I figured they’d throw an offer if interested-that’s what they did my first promotion 4 years ago. Offer email stated my new salary would be $xxk, which was $10k higher than my then current salary-HR, manager and director all were on the offer email when they sent it and when I replied accepting it.
Started the position 12/1. Paycheck is viewable today and it was $30 higher than normal. I check the stub and it states my current rate is $2700ish higher than before. I contact my manager show him my previous rate, current rate and what the offer stated. His response was “oops, the offer was only supposed to be 5% increase”. I stated if it had only been that I would have negotiated or declined based on the MAJOR life changes I had to make to take the job offer. He said he would see what he can do. Haven’t heard anything since this morning.
Why is it a big deal? Taking the job at only 5% raise costs me money.
Previous position was 6am-3pm, work from home, no daycare needed, no direct reports
New position is 7am-4pm, 65 mile round trip to and from office, now paying daycare, 12 direct reports
Just wondering what are the options or what usually happens in this situation?
Here is word for word the offer email if it helps-
